Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Superman!
– Adventures of Superman
We all have a unique superpower we can utilize every day at work, in business, or in our personal lives.
While it may exist, I don’t mean an ability to see through walls or fly in the sky, or the strength of one hundred men, but something that can give us a slight edge if viewed appropriately.
This could be knowing a second language, being extremely empathetic, having a photographic memory, driving colleagues into action, or another source of skill that is a level up from your friends or colleagues or partners.
The thing is, this may not seem like much, but if you look back and pinpoint this added strength, you may realize it has been a unique superpower you’ve successfully used in the past, on numerous occasions, and you simply never realized it was an extraordinary power…and just accepted it as a given or an accident.
Now you may still not view it as extraordinary strength, and you may not believe it really helped you beyond one or two occasions, but if it is indeed a superpower at work or business, then you can leverage your unique superpower to both provide additional value, as well as better focus such power for improved personal and professional growth.
For example, if you can lead your colleagues into action, then your USP may be management or leadership and it could be a direction you should look into.
If you come up with new ideas for projects, campaigns, or stories, then you may be able to contribute creative directions and thus belong in that arena.
If you have the gift of gab, then you may be able to create amazing copy, unleash powerful sales abilities, or enhance communication within your team and office.
I’ve no idea what your USP is, and you likely don’t either, but you should look for it. Take a look at various experiences where others were amazed, appreciative, perhaps even pointed out your smooth set of skills, and whether such directions repeated themselves.
Locate that unique superpower, see how it fits in various ways and in different areas, and see if you can enhance it and raise your standards.
Up, up, and away.
